Shrimp is not a normal ingredient on our weekly menu. In addition to the cost, I’m never quite sure how to cook it properly and I fear making a disastrous meal with an expensive ingredient. Since the whole point of this journey of cooking 365 new recipes is to grow my culinary skills, I realized that cooking with new ingredients was something I needed to tackle. My first adventure with shrimp was Pioneer Woman’s Spicy Lemon Garlic Shrimp.
The pictures alone in Food From My Frontier made this dish look so appetizing! (Again, this is a cookbook I think everyone needs in their collection. I’ve yet to make one of Ree’s dishes that we didn’t LOVE. I’ve lost count of how many I’ve tried and seriously every last recipe is fantastic!) I figured butter and garlic are some of my favorite ingredients so this recipe was promising. We were not disappointed. This was one of those meals where Currey and I just kept looking at each other amazed that we had created this in our kitchen. The shrimp was cooked to perfection (I followed Ree’s directions to a T. I’m telling you, the woman knows how to cook!)
This would be a great date night dinner. Especially if you have little kids, getting a night out can be a challenge. We try to periodically enjoy an evening in. Get your kids to bed and then cook a nice meal together. It’s great to be able to have uninterrupted conversation and not be worrying about cutting someone else’s food or filling sippy cups.
