Have you noticed that the pictures on the blog have changed? Day light savings time really did me in when it came to taking pictures for the blog. Where we live, it begins getting dark around 4:30 so I had to have our meals prepped and ready for pictures around 4. As a family, this was impractical for so many reasons. In addition to lighting, our winters include lots of snow. The table you see in our back yard is where I had been taking all my pictures. Dealing with snow, in addition to limited light had me looking at all sorts of options.
If you’ve been reading My Chicken Fried Life for long, you know that Currey is my biggest cheerleader. He does load after load of dishes and has tried everything that I create in the kitchen. What he wouldn’t publicly tell you is how often he has great ideas for this blog that take me months and months and months to implement. Enter, the DIY light box.
Currey kept telling me that he would make me a light box so I could take pictures inside. I wasn’t sold on the idea so I was dragging my feet about it. I finally realized that I needed a light box so we began searching for plans. I stumbled upon Never Homemaker and her directions for a DIY Light Box were easy to understand. A quick trip to the hardware store and we were ready to make our box. We followed her advice and used tissue paper instead of shower curtains for the sides of the box.
What makes this story even sweeter is that I came home from a particularly difficult night of work to see the completed light box sitting on our dinning room table. Currey had spent his evening putting it together after he put the kids to bed. Just another way he shows his support!
Whether you are taking photos for a food blog of your own or handmade projects for an Etsy site, a DIY Light Box is a great way to take indoor pictures. You have control of the lighting without the hassle of the elements when shooting outside.
We were able to complete this project for $27. Our light box is tucked away in the office. My kids love it and help me take pictures. While I’m not usually one for DIY projects, Currey swears it was very easy to make. Having a light box has been so beneficial to me and I hope our recommendation will encourage you to make a light box of your own.
