As I’ve mentioned before, breakfast is one of my favorite meals to cook. I love a super sugary dish to start the day. One of the most fun things about this process of trying new recipes is finding dishes that I know certain people in my life will love. Currey is a huge fan of Crème Brulee so when I saw this recipe for Crème Brulee French Toast I knew I had to give it a try.
This is one of those dishes that I made and realized it could be served in a restaurant. There are not enough descriptive words to express how incredible this recipe is. I had texted out a picture to my family on the morning that I made this. My aunt replied that she too loves Crème Brulee so I decided to make this again while we were all together for Thanksgiving. It was just as delicious the second time around.
I had to search high and low for Brioche bread but it’s worth the search. I found it at Whole Foods. It’s almost $7 a loaf so this is a special occasion treat! I had great hopes of making my own Brioche to cut costs but when I found an “easy” recipe for Brioche that was 32 steps I decided buying it was not a bad idea. If you don’t live in an area with Whole Foods, any buttery bread, such as challah, would work. Both times I’ve soaked mine overnight. I also used orange zest instead of orange liquor. Make sure to watch the melting sugar closely as it can easily burn. Top the finished product with whipped cream and mixed berries. This would make a great Christmas morning breakfast.
