Dr. Pepper is my current addiction. During my last pregnancy I usually chose to indulge in a cup of coffee in the morning instead of drinking Dr. Pepper during the day. It was winter most of my pregnancy so a hot beverage just made sense. And really, if you are drinking a Dr. Pepper nothing short of 32 oz will do. My first request once I was on the Mother Baby unit was a LARGE Dr. Pepper. It’s safe to say I love the stuff.
Then I stumbled upon Pioneer Woman’s Spicy Dr. Pepper Shredded Pork. A roast cooked in Dr. Pepper? I just had to try! I’m always looking for a recipe to use my Le Creuset Dutch Oven so this was a perfect excuse.
As with all Pioneer Woman recipes, we were not disappointed. I seriously love her recipes and I’ve yet to make something that we didn’t really enjoy. We laugh because we talk about Ree like we know her but we never actually call her by name. In our home, she’s just Pioneer Woman and through her recipes, we feel like we’ve become friends. She seems to love food just as much as I do!
Please be warned that this recipe is spicy. Yes, I realize that the title includes the word spicy but usually I can handle very spicy food. If you are not a fan of spice cut back the amount of adobe chilies that you put in. This is a great weeknight dinner that will produce plenty of leftovers. If you aren’t feeding a crowd you could easily half this recipe.
Check back tomorrow and I’ll have an original recipe using the leftovers from this Spicy Dr. Pepper Shredded Pork. I guarantee you, it’s worth coming back for!
